Riocht 5K: A very successful 3 x 5K series of road races was held by Riocht Club in Castleisland. Our club did very well there, running from the club were Siobhan Daly, Michelle knee, Caroline Murphy, Robert Purcell, Cheryl Carmody & Norette O’ Riordan.

Lee 10 Mile: Catherine Kiely ran a brilliant race in The Lee 10 mile. Seamus Murphy, Nora Flynn & Mary O’ Connell are running very well in the road race circuit.

Cross Country: The cross country season kicks off September 30th in The Demense Killarney. Keep an eye out for more updates.

Couch to 5K: Commences in Barradubh Monday 17th at 7.30 and each Monday and Thursday night. Do come along and join up.

Riocht 5K: Three of our most prominent runners in Castleisland for Riocht 5K were Caroline Murphy , Robert Purcell who each won their category & Siobhan Daly who was 2nd senior. Next Friday night is the final race in the series.

Cross Country Runners: Aspiring cross country runners should be attending training, county competitions commence on September 30th, there are further competitions throughout October and November.

Road Races: The club has secured permits for the following road races St Valentines 5K Feb 9th Killarney Demense at 11.300, race headquarters The Old Monastry, Rathmore East to West 4K March 9th @ 11.30 am. Race headquarters The Bridge Bar.

Training: All training sessions are commencing this week, Tuesday Boherbue 6.30 pm, Fridays Barradubh 6.30 pm, Sunday am at 1.00 in Gneeveguilla.

Couch 2 5K in Barradubh GAA Field commencing September 17th Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 7.30 pm. Due to increased numbers at training we would strongly encourage parents to consider assisting at training, a special training day will be organised for anyone interested in assisting at training and membership will be given free. Club training is open to children born in 2012 or older. Membership is €20 per child and €25 per adult, also €2.00 per child per training session to cover hall/ field rental and associated costs. Fancy Dress Parade: Thanks to all those who marched with the Athletic Club in the fancy dress parade last Sunday, our banner told no lies, this is the club’s 40th anniversary.

All Ireland Masters & National League Finals: A great weekend for our club, in the Masters 5 athletes travelled results as follows: Eileen O’ Riordan O45 1st WOF, 2nd Hammer & discus & 3rd Shot, Shelia O’ Donoghue O50 1st WOF, shot & hammer, Catherine O’ Sullivan Moynihan O30 1st 100m, 1st long jump, Brid stack O40 3rd in 200m, Robert Purcell ran well in 5000m. Mairead O’ Neill was part of Kerry team placed in National League division 1, Mairead won the hammer event.

New PRO: The club welcomes Marie Foley who has joined our club PRO team for publicity. We look forward to Marie’s input.

Training & Couch to 5K: Details to be announced shortly of upcoming training dates and a new couch to 5K session. We are hoping sessions will be as enjoyable as last year

All Ireland Masters: Best wishes go to our master athletes who will be travelling to Tullamore on Saturday to contest these championships. Travelling are Eileen O’ Riordan, Catherine O’ Sullivan, Shelia O’ Donoghue, Brid Stack & Robert Purcell. Unfortunately due to injury the club will not be contesting the 4 x 100m relay.

European Triathlon Championships: Having qualified, Caroline was part of the Irish o50 team who travelled to Scotland last weekend, the team were well placed. Caroline was doing triathlons long before she joined Gneeveguilla AC. Congrats Caroline and well done on a fantastic achievement.

1 Mile road race: Our summer series finished in Gneeveguilla on Wednesday last, again we had great support for the final race as we had for all other 4 in the series. Special thanks to all venues & race headquarters for the use of facilities, Barradubh – The corner Bar, Fossa – The community Centre, Knocknagree – The Fairfield Tavern, Ballydesmond – Bobs Bar, Gneeveguilla – The GAA Club Bar. It takes a lot of hands to co-ordinate and run these events, the club conveys a sincere thank you to all out helpers no matter what job is assigned to you. Thanks to secretarys, tunnel builders, road markers and measurers, medal suppliers, Gneeveguillla Gaa Ladies committee, GAA Bar Staff, official timekeepers, all the stewards, the printers, John Buckley Race numbers, Hickey’s Centra Rathmore for the catering. To our own club members be that you ran or were helping, take a bow, we look forward to next year.
